 Get
Ready, Rover!
(or, how to help your dog
get ready to meet your new baby)
The “Get Ready, Rover!”
seminar is recommended by the Department of Family Life
and Childbirth at Sunnybrook and Women's College Health
Sciences Centre.
Congratulations! You’re expecting a baby, and
everyone is very excited. But how will your “first
baby” – your dog – react to your new
bundle of joy? You can make the transition easier for
everybody by doing a few things now to help Rover adjust.
Our Get Ready, Rover! seminar is a
90-minute program that will help you teach your dog:
- how to react to the sounds and
smells of a new baby.
- to learn what behaviour is expected
when you bring your baby home.
- to adjust to not being the center of attention
at all times.
Dogs are welcome at our Get Ready, Rover!
seminar, or you can come by yourself and work with your
dog on your own afterwards.
When you attend the Get Ready, Rover! seminar
with Time and Patience Dog Training, you will also receive
a copy of “Preparing
Fido”™, a comprehensive, 45-minute CD
of various baby sounds, including crying, giggling,
grunting, breathing, cooing and screaming, to help your
dog adjust to the “strange noises” your
new baby will make. (Value: $20.00)
Our Get Ready, Rover! seminar runs
the second Monday of each month at Tailwags
Doggy Daycare, located at 523 Eglinton Avenue West,
approximately four blocks west of Avenue Road. The cost
is $75.00, and includes space for two adults, your dog
(if you wish), and the “Preparing Fido”
CD.
While “Get Ready, Rover!”
identifies and briefly covers the behaviours that will
be helpful once your child comes home, the one-hour
format does not allow for extensive teaching or practicing
of these commands. For a more in-depth opportunity to
learn and practice with your dog, sign up for our four-week
Get Ready, Rover!
Refresher Course, or take advantage of our private,
in-home training program.
